This Privacy Policy explains what information SoilByCounty.com collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. SoilByCounty is a data-journalism site that presents public USDA soil survey data by county. It is part of the ByCounty Network. You do not need to create an account or provide any personal information to read any page on this site.
Information We Collect
SoilByCounty does not ask for, store, or require personal information such as your name, email address, or physical address to browse the site. The only information we collect is standard, aggregate web-analytics data — page views, referring sites, approximate location at the country/region level, device and browser type — gathered through Google Analytics. We use this data to understand which pages are useful and to improve the site. We do not build advertising profiles from it and we do not sell it.
Cookies
This site uses cookies from the following services:
- Google Analytics — We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate site usage such as page views, referral sources, and browser types. Google Analytics sets cookies (including
_gaand_gid) to distinguish unique visitors and sessions. - Google AdSense — We display advertisements through Google AdSense. AdSense and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site and other websites, and to measure ad performance. These are third-party advertising cookies that are not controlled by SoilByCounty.
We do not sell any personal data to third parties.
Google AdSense and Third-Party Advertising
SoilByCounty is funded in part by advertising served through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this website and other sites on the internet. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your browsing history.
You can control or opt out of personalized advertising at any time:
- Manage your Google ad personalization settings at Google Ads Settings.
- Opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out.
Google explains how its advertising services use information from partner sites at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services, and describes its advertising cookies and controls at Google Advertising.
Affiliate Links
Some pages may include affiliate links — currently limited to gardening and soil-amendment product referrals. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links are labeled, and merchants you visit through them may set their own cookies under their own privacy policies. Affiliate relationships never influence which counties or soil types we feature on data pages.
Your Choices
Most web browsers let you control cookies through their settings. You can configure your browser to refuse all cookies, accept only first-party cookies, or delete cookies when you close your browser. Disabling cookies may affect some site functionality. For more information about managing cookies, visit allaboutcookies.org.
Children's Privacy
SoilByCounty is intended for a general adult audience researching public soil and land-use data. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Please do not submit personal information about children through any contact channel on this site.
